ISBLRT SKILLING 2: Vocational Training

As part of the 'India Sweden Business Leaders Roundtable' (ISBLRT), this discussion is a continuation from the work being done within the Joint Working Group ISBLRT Skilling.

This invite is by invitation only, and primarily for the people in your organization working with Vocational Training, and where we hope to have your support to engage further. Work in ISBLRT Skilling Vocational Training is not only ongoing, but also moving forward.

The joint working group looks to understand how ISBLRT member represented companies in the Sweden-India corridor can work together using best practices and methods to create bridges of opportunity and thereby ensure that your organisation has the information and partners you need for success.

Kraftsamla is a successful initiative working closely on gender equality in vocational training, which we will also hear more about from the Swedish Chamber of Commerce during the discussion. Concrete and successful cases that are working to bridge this opportunity is the focus of the day.

SKILLING INDIA

Skilling India is one of the most important pillars on the Prime Ministers and India's agenda.

• 65% of India's population below 35 years of age

• 12 Million Youth enter Indian workforce annually

• Currently, the system has the capacity to train only 3 million youth against 12 million entering the labor force annually

• 45.9% - Youth Found Employable by Industry

• 54% - Employers who currently have open positions for which they can't find right skilled candidate

• By 2030, 375 million workers or 14% of the global workforce to need reskilling

• 50% of India's workforce will need to be reskilled to meet the demands of the evolving employability landscape by 2022

• India's Labour productivity significantly lower than global peers. By 2021, India's output/ worker to be $6,414 compared to China's $16,698

• Less than 5% of India's total workforce has undergone formal skill training compared to 68% in the UK, 75% in Germany, 52% in the USA, 80% in Japan and 96% in South Korea

• Under the National Skill Development Mission, 20 Central Ministries/ Departments including Ministry of Skill Development

• Entrepreneurship are involved in the implementation of more than 40 schemes/programmes on Skill Development. One Crore youth are imparted skills training annually under various programs of the National Skill Development Mission

• Under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY 2.0) (2016-20) 46.27 lakh candidates have been trained under Short Term Training (STT) courses and 60.68 lakh candidates have been oriented under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) component

• Under placement linked Short Term Training (STT) component of PMKVY (2016-20), as on 19.01.2021, 36.04 lakh candidates have been certified; out of which, 18.95 lakh candidates have been placed across the country

• Under Jan Shikshan Sansthan, around 6.3 lakh candidates have been trained since 2018 to till now

• Under ITIs, 72.49 lakh candidates have been enrolled in last five years
