It is time to better understand the Swedish and Indian AI and Digitalization Ecosystems and how they benefit from each other!

AI and Digitalization are transforming the global landscape of innovation, showing excellent productivity potential across industries. Sweden and India are today world leaders in driving this process with complementary and synergistic strengths.

Sweden-India Business Council are organizing this event as a result of many years having worked closely with our partners, large corporates through the India Sweden Business Leaders' Roundtable (ISBLRT), members across industries and of course the startups in Sweden India Tech Community (SITEC). This in addition to the work being done through initiatives combining both but also including government agencies and academia, like the Sweden India Transport Innovation and Safety partnership (SITIS).

Leif Johansson holds board positions at Autoliv, Inc and Ecolean AB.He is a member of the European Round Table of Industrialists (Chairman 2009-2014), a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (Chairman 2012-2017). He

the CEO of AB Volvo 1997-2011. He was a Non-Executive Director of Bristol Myers Squibb
1998-2011. Prior to that, Leif held different executive positions within the Electrolux group, latterly as the group CEO 1994-1997.

Ambassador Tanmaya Lal, 55 years of age, has served as an Indian diplomat for nearly 3 decades. His previous two assignments were as High Commissioner to Mauritius (2019-2020) and as Ambassador / Deputy Permanent Representative of India to UN Permanent Mission of India, New York from 2016-2018.

During his tenure in Mauritius, three high profile India-assisted development projects - Metro Express, ENT Hospital and Supreme Court building - were jointly e-inaugurated at Prime Ministerial level. Work is ongoing on a range of other large infrastructure projects. Coordination of assistance during Covid19 pandemic, MV Wakashio oil spill and repatriation of stranded Indians was also organized. There were three visits by PM of Mauritius to India during this phase.

His work experience includes India’s engagement in its extended neighbourhood (Mauritius, Iran, Southeast Asia and East & Southern Africa) and west Europe as also regional groupings (EU, ASEAN, AU, BIMSTEC, IORA and IOC). As the Head of the East & Southern Africa (E&SA) Division, his portfolio included work relating to the AU and 20 African countries as also the 2015 Third India-Africa Forum Summit that saw an unprecedented scale of participation. In Mauritius he engaged with the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) and Indian Ocean Commission (IOC).

He has also worked extensively on multilateral aspects of India’s engagement as the Head of the UN Economic & Social (UNES) Division at headquarters and earlier at the Indian Missions in Vienna, Nairobi and Bangkok. His portfolio at the headquarters included the Climate Change negotiations at the UNFCCC, Agenda 2030, Human Rights Council, UN agencies, maritime issues, and the Arctic Council among others.

Prior to New York, Ambassador Lal has served in the Indian Missions in Bonn 1993-1996; Tehran 1999-2002; Vienna (also accredited to Slovenia) 2002-2005; Bangkok 2007-2010 and Nairobi (also accredited to Somalia and Eritrea) 2010-2013. He served as the Deputy High Commissioner and Deputy Permanent Representative (DPR) in Nairobi and Deputy Chief of Mission and DPR in Bangkok.

Besides heading the E&SA Division (2015-2016) and the UNES Division (2013-2015), he has served as Director (2005-2007) and Under Secretary (1997-99) for the West Europe Division (engagement with EU and 12 west European nations) and as the Regional Passport Officer for Delhi (1996-97).

He received the S. K. Singh Award in 2013 for Excellence in the Indian Foreign Service.

He did his schooling in New Delhi and holds a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering and a Master's degree in Biological Sciences from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani.

After graduating in 1987, he worked with two Indian Public Sector Undertakings : the Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) from 1988-1991 and the Cement Corporation of India (CCI) from 1987-88 before joining the Indian Foreign Service in 1991.

He speaks English, Hindi and German and has some working knowledge of French.

He is married to Sumita Lal and the couple has one son.

Arati has been working on issues of sustainability and policy, for a green transition. Questions of mobility, clean energy solutions, capacity and storage have been central to the work she has been undertaking. Arati is the head of the Secretariat for the Sweden-India, Transport, Innovation and Safety Partnership (SITIS), a strong triple-helix collaboration of industry, academia and government agencies.

Arati started working with environment and natural resources in 2000, in the US, and she has had over 15 years experience of working with sustainable development in the Sweden – India context; working first with Sida’s energy portfolio, and subsequently with the Embassy of Sweden, New Delhi’s Environment Office.

She has worked intensely with e-mobility within the Sweden India corridor and is the author of the report "Electromobility and India, Opportunities for Engagement"

Arati is also the India Country Manager of Recap and sits on the board of URBS (Urban Systems) and Pratham Sweden.

Arati holds a MSc. in Natural Resource Management from SOAS, University of London and a B.A. in International Political Economy from Swarthmore College, PA, USA and the London School of Economics.

Cecilia is an Angel Investor with focus on Tech, AI and Gaming. GetMega (social real money gaming platform) which she invested in and became an advisor for in 2019 then had 10,000 subscribers. The platform today has 5 million subscribers well on track to hit 50 million this year!

She is also a Fashion Revolution Ambassador - working towards a safer, fairer, cleaner & more transparent clothing industry with positive outcomes for both people & the planet.

Known for being a “culture architect”, she has been instrumental in the opening of Soho House Mumbai - Asia’s first SH. She today sits on the committee of the house and advices the team on strategy. She is also representing India and The Nordics in Soho House's Digital Global Committee.

Amitabh Kant is presently CEO of National Institution for Transforming India (NITI). He is a member of the Indian Administrative Service, IAS (Kerala Cadre: 1980 batch). He is the author of Branding India - An Incredible Story. Mr. Kant has been a key driver of the “Make in India”, Startup India, “Incredible India” and God’s Own Country” initiatives that positioned India and Kerala State as leading manufacturing and tourism destinations. These campaigns have won several international awards and embraced a host of activities – infrastructure development, product enhancement, private-public partnership and positioning and branding based on extensive market research. Mr. Kant also

Devdatt is a Professor in the Data Science and AI Division of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology and co-founder of EmbeDL. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Cornell University USA and was a postdoctoral fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Computer Science in Saarbrueken Germany. He was with BRICS (Basic Research in Computer Science, a center of the Danish National Science Foundation) at the University of Aarhus and then on the faculty of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi before joining Chalmers in 2000. He has led several national projects in machine learning and has been associated with several EU projects. He has been an external expert for the OECD report on “Data Driven Innovation”. He has published regularly in the premier machine learning and AI venues such as NIPS, ICML and AAAI.

Vanessa Eriksson is a pioneer and a leading-edge data practitioner with several years of experience in
Data Strategies; including Data Security & Compliance and Innovation.
She served as the Chair of PwC’s CDO Advisory Board and on Gartner’s North America & EMEA Data
and CDO Advisory Boards. An active voice in the data and analytics community, Vanessa has spoken

Pavan Asalapuram (Founder) is a pharmacist by education and trained biotechnologist, with a desire to develop novel molecular diagnostic methods. After the formal graduate education from India, Pavan moved to Sweden and worked as a researcher in top universities/research organisations like the Royal Institute of Technology-KTH, Stockholm University, Karolinska University and SciLifeLab (Swedish national hub for molecular biosciences).

From his graduation, Pavan is involved in several European Union research projects, where he has experienced the horizons of health care systems between industrialized and developing countries. Pavan has played a major role in developing diagnostic platforms, published about 20 scientific articles, and holds 2 international patents in biomedicine. Lei's research interests include vehicle communications e.g. DSRC, LTE, 5G V2X, connected vehicle applications, cooperative intelligent transport systems (C-ITS), flying vehicles, e.g., drones, mobility data mining through the vehicle and telecom data, as well as mathematical optimization methods for performance evaluation and improvement for C-ITS.

Lei has a broad education covering communications, signal and systems, computer networking, automatic control, operations research, etc. His master study involved design and demonstration of a novel unmanned airborne vehicle (UAV) based ad hoc network. His PhD study was dedicated to mobile broadband (MBB) performance engineering including capacity analysis for ad hoc networks, resource planning and optimization of cellular networks (GSM, UMTS, LTE…), and design of distributed antenna systems for in-building networking. Mathematical optimization methods, e.g. integer linear programming, meta-heuristics, are the common tools he has been using for engineering problems.

Lei believes that as one of the most important and integrated parts of the smart cities, future transport will be fully connected and cooperative. Despite the technology evolution, many challenges lie ahead including communications, real-time data analysis, clouds, use cases, and business innovation, among others. His research will contribute in those areas and help to accelerate the evolution of connected mobility.

Dr. Nordlund has spent most of his career in the industry, first as director of technology strategy and technology acquisition at Saab AB Corporate Technology, and later 12 years as vice president of R&D for Emerson Process Management - Level and Marine. He has a background from MIT where he after his graduate studies started the SDM program. During 2012-15 he lived in Moscow, Russia and was the Vice President of research programs at Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) - a new state-of-the-art university that was started in collaboration with MIT. Skoltech is a key component of the Russian federal economic modernization program. Back in Sweden, he joined Zenseact (formerly Zenuity) as head of research and special projects.
